Alma Cox - Cox Design
Alma Cox started painting and drawing as a child. She was inspired to do so by her father, who was a teacher of fine art. She later studied graphic art in an evening class at the University for the Fine Arts in Dresden while still at secondary school. After graduating from secondary school, she spent 5 years studying fashion design at the University for Design and the Fine Arts in Berlin Weissensee. She then studied for 2 more years in a master class and graduated as a Master of Arts.
After graduating, she worked for several fashion companies as a fashion, textile and graphic designer, during which time she lived in a variety of cities such as Paris, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart. She worked as a freelance designer for decorative print design and as a trend scout for companies such as Koziol, Kahla, Artebene, Design House and glaskoch/ Leonardo. Since commencing her cooperation with Leonardo in 1994, she has explored her fascination for crystal glass and been inspired to create jewellery focussed on this wonderful multifaceted material. Cox Design has created the entire Jewels by Leonardo collection since 2005. The greatest success for Jewels by Leonardo was the invention of the Darlin clip which allows customers to create their own look with nearly endless style possibilities.
She finds inspiration for her work in nature and architecture and from traveling through different countries and cultures. One of her favourite places is the Asian world with its ancient culture and the way that culture is expressed in so many items of daily life. She has especially been inspired by the lotus flower, by its use as a symbol of purity, love and empathy and also by its perfection. It is probably the most perfect flower in the world.
